EFFURUN-OTOR/OVWOR OLOMU BRIDGE PROJECT DEAR TO MY HEART-OKOWA.




Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has stated that the ongoing Effurun-Otor/Ovwor Olomu Bridge project is dear to his heart.

The governor who made the disclosed in his response to an address presented to him by the Executives Chairman, Ughelli South Local Government Council, Hon Paul Etega during the governor’s town hall meeting with the people of Ughelli South at Otu Jeremi ,recalled that the he was sad seeing the traditional ruler of Effurn-Otor Kindom HRM Duku II driving from a Effurun Otor in a distance of about 30 kilo meters to his (Duku 11)maternal neighboring community of Uvwor that was separated by a short distance of a wooden bridge

While stating that the the contractor in charge of the project has mobilized to site, Governor Okowa expressed his commitment to completion and commissioning of the
project in no distance time.Other challenges facing the local government council
highlighted by Hon. Etega in his address include the council’s dependence of statutory allocations, menace of herds men, illegal bunkering amongst others.

In his response ,Governor Okowa advised the people of the area particularly the youths to key into the various youths empowerment programme of Delta State just as he announced that sporting activities have been reintroduction in primary and secondary schools in the state in order to engage pupils and students of Delta state in meaningful activities outside education and to also fetch for sport talents at the grass root through the principal soccer cup competition amongst secondary schools and annual inter house sport competition s in both primary and secondary schools in the state.

On the security challenges caused by herds men, the governor disclosed that the state house of assembly will soon erect a law that is aimed at checking the menace of herdsmen in the state even he stated that “We need to continue to call on the Federal Government to do what they are supposed to do in checking the menace of Fulani herdsmen in the country”.

In a brief chat with our correspondent shortly after the event, HRM Duku II expressed appreciation to governor Okowa for his concern for the Effurun-Otor/Uvwor Olomu
Bridge project and also commended Senator Okowa for his initiative of the town hall meeting which he noted has brought a lot of awareness about activities government to the people of the grassroots.

On his part, the President-General, Effurun-Otor kingdom Chief Patrick Odukuye similarly remarked that the initiative of governor in holding a town hall meeting has brought the people nearer to the government just as he congratulated the people of Ughelli South for the successful town hall meeting.
