BY PATRICK OGBOGU

The sleeping community of Olomu in Ughelli South LGA came alive penultimate Saturday June 24, 2017, following the prayers for success and God's protection showered upon the life of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori by traditional rulers in the Delta Central Senatorial District of the State at the Palace of the Owhorode of Olomu, HRM Ogbon Ogoni Oghoro 1 [ JP ] in recognition of his humility and selfless service to humanity.

Suffice it to say that the visit of Oborevwori to the Urhobo royal fathers to formally inform them of his emergence as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and to seek their blessings was coming on the heels of a recent visit of Oborevwori to his royal father and the Orodje of Okpe kingdom, Orhue 1 at Orerokpe, giving the aphorism that says, “charity begins at home,”
Prior to his arrival, people from all walks of life including traditional rulers, chiefs, prominent politicians and technocrats had earlier gathered at the Palace of the Olomu Royal father to take part in the occasion.
Resplendent in his Urhobo native attires, Rt Hon Oborevwori alighted from the vehicle and started exchanging banters and pleasantries with the Palace chiefs and others who immediately milled around him to welcome him and his entourage to the Palace of the Olomu monarch. They were ushered into the Palace where the ceremony took place.
A large crowd had thronged the Owhorode Palace to witness the event and have a glimpse of the Speaker, Oborevwori who they regard as their son from Urhobo land.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori informed the Monarchs that visit was to acquaint them of his emergence as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and to seek their fatherly advice, prayers and blessing to enable him succeed in his new position.
“I have come to introduce myself to my royal fathers of Urhobo land as the new Speaker of the State House of Assembly. I have also come to meet my royal fathers to seek your prayers and supports to enable me succeed as it is part of our culture that a wise child should ask for
his father’s blessings before embarking on a new venture.” Oborevwori said.

“I assure you that whatever the Urhobo nation wants from the Delta State Government for the Urhobo people to move forward is what I stand for. And by your prayers and support of our listening governor we shall cross the bridge.” He added, amidst round of applause from the audience.

He called on the monarchs to rally round the Okowa administration and give the governor their maximum support to make him realize his campaign promises of providing prosperity to all Deltans.
Responding on behalf of other traditional rulers, the Owhorode of Olomu kingdom, Ogbon Ogoni Oghoro 1, welcomed Rt Hon Oborevwori and his entourage to the Palace.
The royal father described the visit of the Speaker as unprecedented in the history of Urhobo land, noting that the visit was the first time a Speaker of the State House of Assembly from Urhobo land had embarked and thanked Oborevwori for recognizing the traditional institution.
The royal fathers later stretched their hands towards Oborevwori in his kneeling position to pray and bless him for his humility and respect to the traditional institution. They equally prayed for the State Chairman of the PDP, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso and for the success of the Okowa administration.
Factually, there is an axiom which says that charity begins at home.
This means that a man should be liked and respected in his home base as a result of his track records of achievements and outstanding character.
A man cannot parade himself in the larger society as a man of substance and integrity or political guru without establishing a good relationship with his kit and kins.
Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, fits into the paradigm of a man who has welded considerable influence from royal fathers and members of the Urhobo communities.
Coming from a humble and respectable pedigree, Oborevwori is a man who has carved a niche for himself in Urhobo land as a selfless leader, gentle, humane and easily accessible to everybody.
Oborevwori had realized that education was the bedrock of the country’s development and the biggest legacy that should be bequeathed to youths and the upcoming generation.
Therefore, after a successful secondary career, he decided to go in search of more golden fleece when he got admission into the Edo State University, Ekpoma. Oborevwori’s academic’s success widened his knowledge and intuition to prosper in his life endeavours.
As a result of the likeness and admiration which his people have for him, he was tipped to contest election into the Delta State House of Assembly. They rallied round him and gave him all the necessary moral support which eventually saw Chief Sheriff Oborevwori winning the election under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party [PDP].
Despite his victory at the polls, Oborevwori never allowed such victory to enter his head, he accepted it with humility and often appealed to his opponents to bury the hatchet and join hands to move the Okpe constituency forward.

A fulfilled man and politician of humble background, Oborevwori has achieved a good reputation in Urhobo land, particularly in Osubi his home town and adjoining communities in Okpe land as a philanthropist of no mean feat who has the interest of the people at heart.

He is an epitome of humility and generosity and has the ever burning desire to champion the cause of the aged people, royal fathers and the less-privileged persons in the society.

A devout Christian and political leader, Oborevwori faces the challenges that confronts a new generational politician and first timer in the House who emerged as Speaker following the removal of a fellow Okpe kinsman.
However, Oborevwori appears well prepared for the challenges facing him as Speaker and has pledged to be fair to all and to lead the House towards unprecedented progress and legislative growth.

Whatever the case is, Oborevwori has come to stay as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly. His success however depends on his ability to portray himself as a versatile, listening and generous lawmaker who use his position in the House to facilitate the smooth passage of popular bills to better the lots of the people.
