President Goodluck Jonathan the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the 2011 Presidential election polling a total of 22,496,157 votes as against 12,214,529 polled by General Muhammadu Buhari of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) followed by Nuhu Ribadu of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)with 2,088,791; and Ibrahim Shekarau of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) gaining 917,365 Nigerian Votes.

President Jonathan also polled 60 percent from the 37,716,842 total votes cast out of Nigeria’s registered 73 million voters. He also garnered 25 percent in 32 states and the FCT and surpassed the mandatory minimum 2/3 requirement of the total votes cast.

The states he did not meet the 25 percent target are Bauchi, Borno, Kano and Yobe.

Dr. Jonathan won in all the 17 states in the South except in Osun State (Southwest) which went to Nuhu Ribadu of the ACN.

Jonathan also won in 7 Northern states (Adamawa, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Plateau, Taraba) and the FCT Abuja.

On the other hand, General Buhari won in only 12 states of the federation which coincidentally are in the North.

His performance in the South was extremely poor.

He won in Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kaduna, Niger, Yobe, Sokoto and Zamfara.

Ibrahim Shekarau did not win any state.

Presidental Election:Pregnant women Vote first

*Hon Engr Victor Ochei honors womanhood

Its time for voting, we have closed accreditation but we will attend to pregnant women first, please every body bear with us.

The above gentle and passionate appeal came from INEC ad-hoc staff on duty at Aniocha North Local Government Area.

Asaba Post crew capture wonderful exciting voting moment with Hon. Engr. Victor Ochei, who against horrible rumours spread against his personality, demonstrated great respect for motherhood and gender advancement.

Hon. Engr. Ochei while on line and ready to vote was swiftly over- taken by a young lady and contrally to what Asaba post crew had about his personality, was surprise to see Hon. Ochei calmly as with midas touch and in quiet royal voice pitch ask the young lady why beating the line.

I am a nursing mother, I just delivery a new baby recently, please I want to vote for GoodLuck and hurry back to my child sir, was the firm response from the lady.

Hon Engr. Ochei could not hold back his respect and live for motherhood as he quietly allowed her the chance she bought for

Curfew In Kaduna, Kano Over Violence As Jonathan Wins Presidential Election

The protests which erupted in Kano and Kaduna States in Northern Nigeria following the victory of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in the Presidential election has led to the imposition of a 24-hour curfew in the states, according to THEWILL correspondents in the area.

Irate youths had attacked residents and properties including cars of pro-Jonathan politicians in both states including torching the Zaria, Kaduna residence of Vice President Namadi Sambo.

There are also reports that youths forced open Zaria’s central prison and released inmates.

We are however unable to confirm the number of those killed in the protests.
THEWILL correspondent who has taken refuge at the Army Barracks in Kano reports that properties of private citizens are also being torched in Kano.

In the same vein, there are also confirmed reports of riots in outskirts of Abuja.
Yesterday there were pockets of riots in Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe and Borno following protest in a peaceful and fair election which showed voters voting along ethnic and religious lines.

Isiaka appeals to Ogun State people

My good people of Ogun State,

With a deep sense of humility, I count it a great opportunity to write you all
at this auspicious period when the struggle is on to make Ogun State great. As
we are aware, the elections are ongoing. We have had four out of nine National
Assembly elections on April 9th, 2011, the Presidential election was conducted
two days ago and come the 26th of April, 2011, the Gubernatorial elections will
be held. I remain your beloved son, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and I humbly
seek your support to become the governor of Ogun State under the Platform of the
Peoples party of Nigeria (PPN).

My people, in the last two years, I have traversed the nook and crannies of Ogun
state. What I have simply done is to tell you all why I am going to the
government house and what I want to do there.

By God’s design, I spent the first
sixteen years of my life in my hometown, Imeko, which gives me a clear
understanding of the desires of the common man. I left thereafter to University
of Ife where I obtained a ‘First Class’ degree in Accounting and an MBA from
University of Lagos. Subsequently, I garnered several professional
qualifications and trainings that includes FCA, ACIS, ACIT, SMP (Lagos Business
School) and Leadership in the 21st Century from Harvard University, USA. I was
an investment banker of repute with over fourteen years of experience.

My wealth of experience was brought to bear on Gateway Holdings Limited; the
investment company of Ogun State that I ran from scratch to become an
institution that contributed to making Ogun State becomes an investment
destination of choice.

I interfaced with every ministry, department and agency
of government which gave me a firsthand understanding of the economy and
governance of Ogun State. With my direct involvement, several investments are
today being promoted in Ogun State and other landmark projects like the Free
Trade Zones, Deep Sea port and Cargo Airport were initiated; suffice it to say I
stand in the best position to consolidate the work on ground and to complete
these revolutionary projects.

Governance is about the scientific management of human beings and available
resources. It is about creating initiatives and opportunities with the people’s
resources by the people’s active participation and for the ultimate benefit of
the people. What drives this is vision, ideas and innovativeness that is based
on relevant experience in the 21st century governance. I am not like regular
politicians that says what they cannot do.

To this end, it took me eight months
of great work to fashion a realistic working blueprint called the “Gateway to
Greatness”. It is built on four strong pillars. One, growing our economy. Two,
providing quality social services. Three, strengthening our people and the
society. Four, energising government and the polity.

Under these pillars, health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, social
services and the economy are well taken care of. For our people in the border
areas, I will create the Border Towns Development Authority, which will
implement a programme I already have for the accelerated integration and
development of areas such as Mowe, Ibafo, Arepo, Magboro, Iseri, Akute among
others.

Likewise, a strong intervention will be given our education such that
there will be a continuous reduction in the burden of educating our children by
parents and this includes an immediate reduction in the school fees of our
tertiary institutions. I beseech us therefore to be wary of whom you will give
your votes to on the 26th of April.

Let us push all selfish, parochial, antagonistic and vindictive sentiments
aside. Some people talk of change in Ogun State and I ask, what change? Change
into mediocrity or change into progress. Reject those whose antecedents are
shady, reject those without verifiable indices of performance in previous
assignments and reject those without a clear plan for you all.
Importantly, I
sincerely appreciate you all for voting for PPN during the National Assembly
elections despite the relative newness of the party. This to us is heartwarming,
encouraging and attests to the popularity of the party.

I further implore us to troop out on the 26th of April, 2011 and vote massively for me and other
candidates of the PPN vying for the House of Assembly seats. The PPN is a party
that represents the liberation of Ogun people into further development,
socio-economic and human progress. All my years, I have never failed in any
assignment and I promise I will not fail Ogun People when given this opportunity
on 26th April.

I love you all and I intend to make Ogun state the Gateway to Greatness in the
next four years. Let us BELIEVE.

Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI)
PPN Gubernatorial Candidate, Ogun State.

This presidential election is the people election… Hon. Ndudi Elumelu

This election is the people election; it is the people’s expression of confidence in the Goodluck Jonathan administration, were Hon Ndudi Elumelu comment on the state of the just concluded presidential election and on other National Issues.

When asked what is the reason for this large turn- out of voters, hear him, ‘Nigerians are voting for transformation, Nigerians are voting for a perfect gentle- man, a man who within a short while done so much for the country and Nigerians believe that he will do more, hence they are ready to vote him in.

When Asaba post ask him “will Uduaghan win? why he will not win” he sharply replied, we are on ground for that purpose of victory, we are confident that the PDP will triumph over the Dead Peoples Party in Delta State. PDP will win round and square. End of Discussion.

Anti-Jonathan riots break out in Yola

Yola is burning; literally. Northern youths are burning tires on highways and puling down all PDP posters and symbols.

Shops are hurriedly closing and a sense of danger looms this evening in Jimeta area of Adamawa State. It is feared that these riots will spread upwards to Maiduguri where no fewer than five bombs were set off in the last ten days; killing several people including policemen.

The presidential results so far OFFICIALLY announced in thirteen states and in Abuja show that General Buhari (whom the Yola rioters are supporting) has a wretched hope of winning the presidential elections when the remainder results in 23 other states are announced.

Jonathan Win, Violence Erupts in Northern Nigeria

Dominic Ogbonna

Commentary

But why are they rioting? After 50 years of support from the South-South, the best reward these folks can give is to riot? Jonathan must not cuddle murderers and trouble-makers. Anyone who wants to murder Nigerian citizens, or turn Nigeria into Rwanda, must be decisively confronted.

First they would deny it.
Then they would become angry.
Then they would accept it.

As INEC declared results indicate President Goodluck Jonathan has won Nigeria presidential election, Hundreds of youth in Sokoto Sunday barricaded streets leading to Sultan Palace chanting Allahu Akbar, setting bonfires and abusing Sultan Sa'ad Abubakar and Governor Wamakko. They accused the Sultan and the Governor of "double standard to Islam". The Nigeria Police has deployed Mobile Police to the scene and they used tear Gas to disperse the protesters.
At the tine of writing this report, reports available to elombah.com indicate the city is still boiling as hundred of youth rampaged over the results!
Violence was also reported in Gombe, Kaduna and Yola. Other unverified reports claim scores of cars have been burnt in Katsina.

Gombe State government has already imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew to prevent an escalation of the crisis.
"12:30am we are still awake here in Rigasa as sound of gunshots rent the air", said a citizen reporter from Kaduna.

Another Kaduna resident told elombah.com; "Please pray for us. It's not fun, we are in fear, not sure of there target, police patrol is on but the spread is overwhelming them. It's a gorila rioting; Bon-fire, thick smoke as if building, petrol station on fire, youths with weapons doing hide and seek with police, anything PDP is a target. Now we are indoors. The areas affected include Tudub-wada and the whole of the western bye pass, from badiko to kabala west boundary".

The Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan, is on course to retain power after an election intended to draw a line under decades of coups, violence and vote rigging. Jonathan had an unassailable lead as votes were tallied from around Nigeria, despite a strong showing by his rival Muhammadu Buhari in his mainly Muslim strongholds.
In Adamawa State, the protesters allege that the state governor, Murtala Nyako, changed election result figures overnight.
The supporters had earlier threatened violence if the believed their hero was cheated out of victory. "If Jonathan wins it's because he used his government power. It looks like he has done too well," Habib Bazallahi, a local official from Buhari's party, told Reuters.
"Buhari says he won't go to court if he loses but that doesn't mean us, his supporters won't fight. We are ready. We're going to look for Kalashnikovs, bazookas ... There is no going quietly this time."

In Yola, Violent protest erupted in Yola, disturbing the peace in state, as irate supporters of the Congress for Progressive Change protest the victory of president Goodluck Jonathan in the state. The Youths claim the election has been rigged.

Reports from Yola say; "Yola is burning; literally. Northern youths are burning tires on highways and puling down all PDP posters and symbols. Shops are hurriedly closing and a sense of danger looms this evening in Jimeta area of Adamawa State. It is feared that these riots will spread upwards to Maiduguri where no fewer than five bombs were set off in the last ten days; killing several people including policemen".

The crowd of mostly young men besieged traders at the Jimeta modern market to show their displeasure, burning posters of Mr Jonathan and that of the Adamawa state governor, Murtala Nyako. They also took to the street chanting, Buhari "mu ke so, ba mu so hanni." This means รข€˜it is Buhari we want, we don't want an unbeliever.'

Properties worth several hundred thousand of naira is estimated to have been lost, as arsonist touched properties in the wake of the ptotest.

Other reports say trouble began when a southeast trader, allegedly requested a goat from one northerner with whom he had a bet. The bet was that if Jonathan wins in Adamawa, the northerner will slaughter a ram for him and vice versa. But when the result for the state was released, showing Mr Jonathan won, the Igbo trader had, in keeping with their agreement, sought for the ram.

It was then that some angry CPC sympathizers gave the trader a beating of his life; a development that triggered a chain of events which some irate supporters of the CPC latched unto to set bonfires on the road and vandalise vehicles.

However, a detachment of mobile police men have put the development under control.

On Saturday Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) Presidential candidate Gen. Muhammadu Buhari alleged the airlift of thumb-printed ballot papers across the country casting the credibility of the presidential election results in doubt. Mr. Buhari spoke to journalists shortly after casting his vote at his home in Daura, Katsina State.

Buhari said he will not go to court this time to protest the results but the general, however, said his party is at liberty to go to court where real cases of rigging are discovered.

Nigerians wait with bated threat to see whether the contestants will accept the election result tomorrow and congratulate the winner

“It’s all lies!” Saharareporters screams, as PDP wins landslide votes in the South

By SaharaReporters

As SaharaReporters revealed last night, Goodluck Jonathan, the candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) is set to be announced winner of the Saturday April 16, 2011 presidential election, on the back of inflated numbers pumped into the election results from several states in the Southern region.

In Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Anambra, Cross River, Ebonyi, Abia and Bayelsa states, huge numbers have surfaced which gave Jonathan the edge to avoid a run-off election against his main opponent, Muhammad Buhari of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

In Akwa Ibom state, 999.9 % of voters have reportedly voted for Jonathan. Similar margins have been reported in Bayelsa, Rivers and Abia states.

Indeed, in Bayelsa, Jonathan’s home state, he scored 107% of the votes of the initial number voters before INEC reisedd the number of voters registered there a few weeks ago.

In comments made after he voted yesterday, General Buhari observed that some air rigging (the nocturnal distribution of thumbprinted ballots by air), had occurred during the night. He said one such consignment had had arrived in Katsina and that CPC agents had not been allowed to it before it was spirited away to Government House.

In Enugu State today, Osita Okechukwu, the gubernatorial candidate of the CPC addressed a petition to the National Chairman in which he complained of “allocation of votes” in the state and in the South East to Mr. Jonathan.

“We are writing this petition because the result is fraught with gross electoral malpractices, total breach of the Electoral Act 2010 and did not reflect the voting on the ground: but mere allocation of votes to the People’s Democratic Party {PDP} in the midst of low turnout of Enugu State voters,” he said.

Mr. Okechukwu further stated that CPC polling agents were either chased away or not allowed in many Polling Units because their party Identification card was unlike the PDP letter of identification.

He noted that complaints made to INEC Collation officers in such places as Nsukka, Enugu North, Enugu South, Udi, Udenu, Igboeze South and North were ignored, and that the intention was “to doctor the result sheets and stuff up ballot papers with thumb printed ballot papers.”

He called for the biometric technology “which Nigeria expended N87billion on to conduct this election should be deployed to verify the validity of the ballot papers used to allocate such outrageous figures posted as votes by the good people of Enugu State and indeed South East.”

You think I will vote for CPC,No way………Hon Ochei

Oh no, you journalists with your probing cameras and ready pens think I will vote for C.P.C, no way ,I am a loyal party- member, were the media friendly remark of Hon.Engr. Victor Ochei, during the just concluded presidential election in Delta State.

Asaba post crews were on ground at Aniocha North to monitor the presidential elections when Hon. Victor Ochei arrived at the polling station for voting and together with other ever busy and investigative media experts watched the electoral process with keen interest for any explosive political drama, but none happened, other than media friendly out-burst of fun over the soon to happen fall of the opposition, as unveiled by Hon. Engr Victor Ochei to Asaba Post crew.

Hon. Engr. Ochei in response to media chat with Asaba post on the state of the election process commented that every thing appears to be calm, expect of few cases of missing names on the INEC register and maintained that INEC is working on that.

When asked to comment on the next elections he said that there is no cause for alarm, as the election is but an in–house trading between PDP loyal members and some disloyal PDP members, further stressing that there is no room for the opposition in the race.

Presidential Polls: Fearing Violent Backlash, PDP Hires Calming Voices

By SaharaReporters

As polls closed today all over Nigeria, observers in Nigeria report that the sense of buoyancy by supporters of the People's Democratic Party and the air of confidence exuded by President Goodluck Jonathan seemed to be petering out.

This new guarded tone owes to the fact that poll figures pouring in from most of Nigeria’s Northern states show that the candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change performed better than initially anticipated.

Besides, a security source told us that Mr. Jonathan and his team was worried that any victory secured through the party’s manipulation of the elections could create widespread protests, especially in the Northern part of the country.

Already there are rumbles of protests in several Northern states where the ruling party was trying desperately to manipulate the polls. A report from Bauchi spoke of sporadic violence as people protested efforts by Governor Isa Yuguda to keep agents of the CPC from collating centers.

In Jigawa State, youths trailed a van with ballot papers from Sule Tankarka to Government House in Gumel where PDP agents were caught thumb printing the ballots for Mr. Jonathan.

The irate youths reportedly burnt three vehicles used by the Government House riggers. Unconfirmed reports also stated that the youths torched the PDP headquarters.

Curiously, results from the Southeast and the South-South have been slow in coming in. SaharaReporters has learnt that the slow pace of results from these zones is part of a calculated strategy by the ruling party to steal the presidential election.

The Jonathan team has lined up traditional rulers, clergy, opinion molders and journalists across the country to calm the populace to accept the results of the election. Such calming messages from “prominent” Nigerians are meant to serve as a prelude to the ruling party’s unveiling of its victory via rigging.

Among those recruited to preach calm are the Sultan of Sokoto, the Ooni of Ife, pentecostal leaders, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and retired Colonel Abubakar Umar.

Several security sources have disclosed to SaharaReporters that the ruling party, security agents and INEC officials would collaborate in serious manipulation of election tallies overnight in several states, especially in the South Eastern zone.

“The presidential figures will be inflated in Imo, Ebonyi, Anambra, Enugu, Rivers and Akwa Ibom,” said one of our sources, adding that PDP partisans were recruited all-day to engage in massive thumb printing of ballots.

In addition, SaharaReporters learnt that two presidential jets were dispatched today to Lagos where former Governor Bola Tinubu and his associates helped the PDP to snatch victory.

SaharaReporters has been told authoritatively that Mr. Tinubu agreed to boost the Jonathan ticket and to rubbish Nuhu Ribadu, his party’s presidential candidate, after the Jonathan team struck a deal with Mr. Tinubu. “Chief Tinubu wants his EFCC file destroyed permanently, and Dr. Jonathan agreed to that. Tinubu also asked to be allowed to nominate the next attorney general of Nigeria,” said our source.

Mr. Tinubu, whose criminal activities stretch from drug deals in the US to false claims about his academic qualifications, is one of the most corrupt politicians in Nigeria. He has already tipped Yemi Osinbajo for the top post in the nation’s judiciary.

Mr. Osinbajo, who is widely regarded as a fine legal scholar, served as attorney general of Lagos State under Mr. Tinubu.

One of the security sources revealed that the results from these states are being held back to be used as a "joker" after the Nigerian populace has been told to calm down and accept the results of the elections.

A Huge Petro-chemical Facility for Anambra State

The Federal Government will soon build a huge Petro-Chemical facility in the State. The Special Adviser to the President on Petroleum Matters, Dr. Emmanuel Egboga disclosed this at the weekend after a courtesy call on Governor Peter Obi at the Government House, Awka. He said he was in Government House to share ideas with Governor Obi who he described as the best Governor Anambra State has had.

Dr. Egboga said the facility which would be sited at Igbariam area, when completed would be the biggest Gas Plant of its kind in the entire Africa with the capacity of creating more than ten thousand employment opportunities for the people and make the state the centre of gas business.

The Presidential Adviser who stated that gas exploitation will soon commence in the State, noted that the State, especially the Ugwuoba-Awka area has the biggest gas zone in the country.

He explained that the planned National Gas Pipeline System is connected from the South-East to the North through Calabar, passing through Ajaokuta to Kano on to Sahara and will form part of the Trans-Sahara Gas Pipeline that will take the country’s gas to Europe.

According to Dr. Egboga the system is equally connected from South West to the North with a connector from South East to the West.

He said part of his discussion with the Governor was on measure to ensure early exploitation of petroleum products in the state and commended the Governor for his remarkable achievements in every sector.
